“We (Khadiza’s family) try to cheer her up all the time. So we went to the National Memorial to spent some time there,” he mentioned in the post. Two photos of the siblings visiting the memorial in Savar on Monday afternoon was posted on Facebook by her brother Sharnan Haque Shahin.

Khadiza, an honours second year student of Sylhet Government Women’s College, was undergoing physiotherapy at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar. The 23-year-old suffered serious head injuries for the machete blows that cracked her skull.

On Oct 3, last year, she was severely hacked with a sharp weapon by Badrul Alam who was later expelled as a leader of the ruling party’s student wing at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

Initially kept on life support, she underwent three surgeries at Dhaka’s Square Hospital. She was taken to CRP on Nov 28.

“Khadiza still feels the trauma of the attack. She worries that she’ll never be able to return to normal life,” Sharnan told alltimebdnews24.com.

“She is mentally devastated even though her physical condition has improved. She cringes every now and then thinking of the gruesome attack,” he wrote, seeking justice for his sister.

“She still can’t walk properly. Her left leg keeps bending due to the deep cuts. She can’t straighten the fingers on her left hand, despite surgery, because the main nerves and blood vessels were badly severed,” Sharnan who studies clinical medicine at the North China University of Science and Technology wrote in his post.
